MY STORY

My name is Shriyak Singh. I am a graduate student in the Illinois School of Architecture, at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, graduating in May 2020.My time at the Illinois School of Architecture has prepared me to be an efficient member of a team which is expected to handle design projects of any scale and complexity. I am very interested in exploring innovations in architecture technology and design. My zeal to lean and grow will be an asset to any team I am a part of. This intent has been in me since the beginning but here at ISoA, I was able to foster it further and understand the real need for it.

I have two years of professional experience of working in the field of architecture, both in the US and India. I was a part of the U of I's Facilities and Services department over summer, with the Engineering Services. I learnt about the construction techniques and methods employed in the United States in the field of construction. I was a part of the design team working on the Smith Football Centre. The challenging social environment of India allowed me to explore my capabilities as an architect on varied scales, ranging from large-scale urban interventions to residence designs. During my time in India as an architect I have worked under a prominent urban designer, Dr. Amit Hajela, where I learnt the nuances of architectural practice and collaborative work environment. Developing from this experience, I collaborated in an architecture start-up called Studio0522 in 2017 It exposed me to the practical aspects of architecture which students are not exposed to during college.

Working in the field of architecture is about collaboration and teamwork. My experiences in both the professional as well as the academic level have taught me the importance of being a team player and how my contributions can increase manifold when working with other talented individuals. I intend to bring this spirit and a zeal to learn and grow into all the work environments which I am a part of. I am very interested in urbanism and the large scale, community driven projects.
